Creative Writing
Mrs. Dial – Room 416
Welcome to Creative Writing! Because this class is an elective, we will not be as structured as an English class, but we must observe school rules and have some structure each day.
Two major areas will comprise your grade. The first is the journals and portfolio writings submitted (see attached sheet). The journal writings are important to help us build a team spirit and learn to share our writings. Please expect to write an individual response for a group journal topic or have a writing assignment when you come in each day. Returning students are also expected to participate in all class activities. You will either turn in or keep your journal in your notebook to be checked at any time. The portfolio requirements are due on the dates that will be given. Lessons and ideas will precede the due date.
The second major area that will make up your grade is the literary magazine. We made new strides in our magazine last year, but we want to do even better this year. All students in this class will be expected to write and submit to the literary magazine. A major part of the grade will be your involvement in the literary magazine production. We will need layout people, photographers, writers (all), proofreaders, artists, graphic designers, cartoonists, etc.
We hope to add graphics and interactive elements to the magazine this year, so I hope some already know how or will be willing to learn. We will also have people trained on the program we will use to layout the magazine. We will use the computers in the room and room 230. Please make sure you have permission before you automatically get on computers. This class is not just for your own computer use to do your own thing!!!
I hope that you will have a good time and that you will practice your writing and perfect your craft. We also hope to produce the best literary magazine ever!
Thank you,
Mrs. Dial
