Creative Writing Syllabus
Creative Writing is a semester-long course designed for students to write as a craft and as an art. Students will create a blog and post assignments to the class blog observing all terms and conditions of blogging on their handouts, which includes parental permission. Students will also read and comment on other students’ blogs.
· A collection of various writing assignments, such as poems, short stories, drama, journals, and fiction will be assigned and posted to the class blog resulting in a student portfolio of work. Expect to post daily.
· Students will participate in discussions regarding writing and share their own writings with the class.
· Students will produce The Vision, the school’s literary publication, including collecting work, typing collected writings, advertising, photography, poems, short stories, songs, doodles, graphic art, etc. All submissions must be suitable for a school publication. Students will proofread, edit, design, layout in Adobe In-Design, publish, and sell the magazine.
· Students will return letters signed by the principal, teacher, student, and parents stating that Creative Writing students are often out of the classroom or in the classroom without direct supervision as a result of producing, selling, and advertising the literary magazine. Students will wear badges with picture identification so that other teachers and the administration will know who they are. Student privileges will be revoked if violations occur.
· Portfolio requirements are attached and can change from year to year.
· Grades will be determined from class blog assignments and contribution and work on the The Vision.
